Mobile Devices Mean Mobile Business

Mobile Devices Mean Mobile Business

Mobile devices are making inroads every day in areas of business only dreamed of, even 10 years ago.

Clearly, the mobile phone is firmly established as the salesperson and manager's power tool.  But, mobile is cheap, easy and now well beyond phone-only functionality.  Mobile is moving to the call center, the factory, the lab, and even the retail floor.

Some examples:

  • Data logging and sharing - Utilities invested millions to read the first meter.  Today, nearly every General Contractor can email photos of inspection defects to subs and juggle schedules on-site.
  • Customer Service - Call centers can be easily virtualized.  Route calls to on-duty staff at their desk, or on a plane.
  • Point of Sale - What if the checkout lane in your store walked with your floor staff?  What if a sale on the floor updated stocking levels in your web store?
  • Delivery Services - UPS invested millions on brown signature pads.  Today, an iPhone or Droid might provide GPS, delivery instructions, proof of delivery via signature or photo to your pizza delivery driver.
  • Time and Attendance - Bluetooth proximity sensing and in-meeting time accounting apps can trigger invoices or log time to projects automatically.
  • Inventory - Cameras built into a modern phone can act as an always available bar code scanner for "always on" inventory management or competitive price comparisons.
  • Marketing - Why not publish a coupon in Google Local that appears only to people that are looking at maps, walking, or driving in your area?

What are some of the things that your business could do better, faster, more effectively if it was mobile-enabled?

Knowledge is power.  Come to our first mobile business class at noon on Friday.
