Facebook Fan Page Tip: Pull updates to your wall

Facebook Fan Page Tip: Pull updates to your wall

One of our favorite local customers, John B., was having trouble pushing interesting tips from his new website (civilsay.org) to his facebook group ("Like" the group here).

The goal was to have his site post the newest discussion topics directly to his facebook page for better exposure (and without extra effort).  Unfortunately, he found that his virtual community site was only able to publish one type of feed to facebook - and of course, it was not the content John wanted to highlight.  The facebook fan page would be boring with this particular content.

After more tries with a variety of WordPress and BuddyPress (the community site add-on) plugins, John got a little more creative and had the great idea of pulling (subscribing to) updates rather than pushing (publishing) updates.

Of course, WordPress and BuddyPress have hundreds of ways to respond to feed requests, so it was only a short amount of time before John found RSS Graffiti, a little facebook application that subscribes to remote feeds, reads them, and posts those updates to your wall.  With RSS Graffiti, it was easy to post the activity feed from buddyPress to the CivilSay group page wall.

As Sergeant Preston of the Yukon would famously say to his dog, "Well King, this case is closed".
